IDENTICAL TWINS

These ladies both had Orthodontic work at a younger age. One was treated with extraction. the other had Orthopaedic Arch Development. Even though they are identical twins one looks 10 years older than the other.

TREATMENT OF INCISAL CORNER FRACTURES

This excellent result was achieved by the placement of  four Porcelain Veneers to the upper 4 front teeth. The advantages of this technique is that it very conservative with little or sometimes no loss of tooth structure (i.e. no drill).        No anaesthetic is required and the result can be expected to last for many years without deterioration or staining.

No drill, No pain - gaps gone in minutes. Composite Resin was added to reshape the upper 4 teeth and activated with a White Light Ray Gun. The result is instant, inexpensive and will last years.           .

Porcelain laminate veneers are probably the most aesthetic means of creating a more pleasing and beautiful smile. They require a minimal amount of tooth reduction ( approximately .5 mm ) and are, therefore, a more conservative restoration than a crown (capping). Porcelain veneers allow us to modify tooth position, shape, size and colour.

Usually, the preparation of a porcelain veneer does not necessitate the use of a local anaesthetic. However, for those patients that are particularly sensitive or anxious, a local anaesthetic is advisable.

The laboratory time required for the fabrication of a Porcelain Laminate Veneer is approximately one week. As reduction of tooth is minimal, a provisional restoration is sometimes not necessary. Should a temporary be needed, it will be fabricated clinically at the visit of tooth reduction.

Between your preparation visit and the insertion visit, you can expect some sensitivity to hot and cold. This is normal and is due to the removal of a small portion of the enamel covering of the tooth. This sensitivity should disappear after the placement of your final veneer.

Once placed, the laminates are very strong and will resist most of the forces placed upon them by a normal diet. Porcelain has great crushing strength but poor tensile strength. Therefore, you should avoid anything that will tend to twist the laminate. Opening pistachio nuts with your teeth, chewing on bones or jelly apples should be avoided.

Maintenance of Your New Porcelain Veneers :

Maintain optimal oral hygiene - normal brushing and flossing will not damage the veneers. Any non-abrasive tooth paste is acceptable. A good home care regimen will insure the aesthetic success of your laminate restorations for years to come.

Some sensitivity to hot and/or cold may be experienced after the initial placement of your veneers and usually settle after one-two weeks. If this sensitivity should remain or concern you at all, please call your dentist.

As mentioned before, a normal diet should pose no problem at all. Avoid anything that will tend to bend or twist the laminates. Nocturnal bruxers (night time grinder) may need to consider a night splint to minimize the stresses placed upon your teeth while sleeping.

With proper home care and scheduled evaluation visits, porcelain veneers can provide you with a beautiful smile for years to come.
