Are You Going to Halloscream at Luna Park This Year?

This year’s event, titled ‘Hell on the Harbour’, takes place over five nights at the iconic Luna Park in Sydney. Each day, as twilight falls, the gateway to hell opens, releasing lost souls and demons of the underworld, as well as a whole host of other freaky and scary beasties. This year there are three mazes to explore, each of which has its own terrifying story.

Ward 13 takes you through an old derelict hospital ruled by crazed Nurse Brenda. In another maze, encounter a gang of dangerous Aussie outlaws in the 1800s who are ready to kill to avoid capture. Enter the Japanese museum of Yōkai where supernatural forces are waiting for you.

Other activities at Luna Park include a satanic possession ritual, a mystery manor to explore, and a Luna Park’s mirror maze is taken over by an evil cult and is thought to be holding seances. The movie screening is the truly brilliant Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away. If you have never seen this movie before, you are in for an absolute treat. You must have a Halloscream ticket to purchase a ticket to see this film and seats are limited.

Halloscream takes place from October 25th to November 2nd.

Natural Ways to Help Balance Your Blood Sugar

A healthy and balanced diet is very useful when managing an overall healthy lifestyle. Knowing how certain foods affect blood sugar levels allows you to make more informed choices about what to eat and when. We’ve listed some of the best foods for stabilising blood sugar levels naturally.

Non-Starchy Vegetables

These vegetables are a healthy addition to any diet and include carrots, squash, salad greens, cabbage, baby corn, bean sprouts, and cucumber. Aim to eat at least five servings of half a cup of cooked vegetables or 1 cup of raw vegetables every day.

Whole Grain Foods

Whole-grain foods have more vitamins and minerals and ideally, choose products that have 100% whole grain ingredients. Products include brown rice, pasta, quinoa, oatmeal or whole oats, bread, crackers and cornmeal.

Healthy Fats

Healthy fats can be polyunsaturated or monounsaturated or and omega-three is a good example. You can find these fats in avocados, nuts and seeds, olive oil and canola oil. Fatty fish like salmon is high in omega-3, and it contains plenty of protein and other nutrients.

Cacao

Cacao is used to create chocolate and is a bean-like seed that is ground into a powder. It contains a flavonoid called epicatechin and which could help to regulate blood sugar Read More

Spring Clean Your Dental Health Routine!

The signs of spring are everywhere, and for many, it signals the start of a thorough spring cleaning, but what about doing the same for your oral health routine? We have shared a few easy tips to ensure your smile is bright and beautiful for the spring and summer.

Replace Your Toothbrush

Toothbrushes only last three months or sometimes less, and an ageing and frayed toothbrush cannot clean your teeth adequately. A new toothbrush or toothbrush head only cost a few dollars.

Struggle with Flossing?

We know people find it tough to floss every day but changing your routine might help. Try choosing a different flavour of waxed floss to make flossing a bit more interesting. Alternatively, try using dental tape, which is a ribbon of floss that slides more easily between teeth. Otherwise, interdental brushes or floss picks are a good option if you find it tricky to use conventional dental floss.

How Does Age Impact the Health of Your Teeth-The Life of Your Smile?

While there are significant benefits in getting older, your body does need more attention, and your oral health is no exception. As we age we become more susceptible to dental disease and other dental problems. Fortunately, there is a lot you can do to maintain a healthy smile right throughout life.

Tooth Decay

An increased risk of tooth decay is often associated with a problem called dry mouth. You need saliva to maintain a healthy pH balance and to wash away excess bacteria. Unfortunately, many older people need prescription medications that cause dry mouth. We can discuss ways to mitigate the effects of dry mouth, or you might want to talk with your GP about alternative medications.

Gum Recession

The phrase “long in the tooth” is often used to describe older people and refers to gum recession. Gums can recede because of poor oral hygiene, and as they do so, teeth appear longer. Practising good oral hygiene and having regular hygiene appointments helps prevent this problem. Also, your gums can recede if you brush your teeth too vigorously!

We provide custom preventative dental care plans for every patient here at City Dental, which will help to protect your smile as you age.

How to Decline Those Tempting Sugary Snacks

Sometimes it can be tricky to stick to a healthy diet, and especially if you’re out and about with friends and family and are offered a sweet temptation. How do you say no without causing offence? How can you have the willpower to decline these sweet treats?

Be Prepared

Before you go out, make sure you have a well-balanced meal or healthy snack. Filling up on fibrous foods like apples and carrots will make it easier to decline foods packed with empty and sugary calories.

Pack A Few Healthy Snacks

Having something to snack on can help tremendously, such as nuts or seeds, or fresh fruit to satisfy a craving for something sweet.

Learn the Art of Saying “No” Politely

There will always be some people determined to get you to say yes and who will test your willpower! Get into the habit of politely declining their kind offer and make it clear you are serious about and value your health.
